About Us
School Hours 9am – 1.40pm
The Board of Management does not accept responsibility for children
arriving before 8.30am or staying on after home time at 1.40pm.
School door will open at 8.30am.
Parents accompanying children to classrooms are requested to stay with children until teachers arrive at 8.50am. Unaccompanied children will be kept in front hall until 8.50am.
Regular attendance at school is very important from the beginning.
School is obliged to notify Welfare Board if children miss more than 20 days.
Parents are asked to avoid taking children on holidays during school time.
School Uniform
Royal blue jumper, blue or white blouse or shirt, royal blue tie.
Navy tunic or skirt for girls, navy trousers for boys.
School tracksuits are royal blue and navy and are worn with runner shoes, twice a week, on P.E. days. [Teacher will notify parents specifying P.E days for each class.]
Suppliers of school uniforms and tracksuits in Monaghan are: The Fabric Centre, Kinders and Mr James.
Bags and clothes should be marked with owner’s name.
The school cannot be responsible for items lost.
Playtime 11.15am -Lunch 11.45am
This is a Health Promoting School and small healthy lunches are encouraged.
Milk will be provided from 2nd week onwards, at a small cost. Sandwiches,fruit and yogurts are acceptable.
No crisps, bars, sweets or fizzy drinks.
Parking at school
· Parents are asked to observe Traffic Rules when parking.
· No cars are allowed in school grounds.
· There is no access to the Infant School from Convent Grounds or playground gate below Girls’ School.
· Only children going home by bus are to use the small gate at 1.40pm
A note from parents to child’s teacher is needed if:
· Child has been absent.
· Child has to stay in at playtime.
· Child has to be excused from some activity.
· Child has to leave school early with older brother or sister or is being collected by some adult not known to the teacher.
· Bus arrangements are being changed.
Child sick in school
If a child is sick in school parents will be contacted.
Should teacher need to give a child a change of clothing, please return when washed.
Parents may come in to school to give medication.
It is school policy to notify parents if a child gets a bump on the head.
Concerns
If parents are concerned about some aspect of child’s school life they should
1. Make an appointment and discuss the matter with the class teacher.
2. If still concerned, ask to see the Principal
3. If there are concerns about a child’s progress in school parents will be contacted and extra help will be offered.
Home School Links
Parent Teacher meetings are arranged each year.
Written directions are sent to parents on how to help child.
The Principal and teachers are always available to talk to parents – please make an appointment.
Newsletters and notifications of closures etc. are sent home regularly - please check in child's schoolbag.
Books and Equipment
Book bills will be sent out to you.
All books, copies, pencils, crayons and materials that your child will use during the year will be included on the bill.
Children will have access to a wide range of English books which are on a loan scheme.
Schoolbags should be at least 40cm x 25cm. to accommodate size of books.
Homework
Homework is given to help consolidate work done in school and give parents the opportunity to be involved.
No written work is given at weekends.
Junior Infants – 10 minutes reading – no written work.
Senior Infants – 20 minutes reading – written work will start after Christmas.
First Class – 30 minutes – reading and writing.
